Photo of the Week!
F 8; 1/500; 65mm.
Shot in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
If the distinct architectural features don’t immediately give the location of this photo away, the title definitely does! In all seriousness, one of the most charming parts of Amsterdam has to be its inherent style (that’s referred to as the “Amsterdam School“). With canals and ornate rooflines adorning relatively humble abodes like the ones pictured here, merely walking (or biking) around and exploring makes for another adventure in a place that’s already so… “vibrant” and happening. The Dutch flair for design is something that has to be experienced, and whether you’ve been before or not, the Netherlands are worth a visit as soon as it’s safe AND acceptable to travel.
Many of the more recent “POTW!” entries make pretty overt references to the ongoing pandemic — the topic is a challenging one to avoid — and this post is no exception. The scene hearkens back to the days where travel to Europe was relatively easy; here’s to hoping that these sorts of trips return soon. It appears that progress towards reopening is inching forward elsewhere on the continent — which is good! — but let’s keep hanging in there until we have an “all clear.”
