Photo of the Week!

F 8; 1/160; ISO 100; 45mm.

Shot at El Pentágono De Olvide in Madrid, Spain.

The effects of the COVID-19 outbreak are omnipresent and, for the ninth week in a row now, the “Photo of the Week!” entry is reflective of these frightening, if not surreal, times.  Fortunately throughout most of the world, things are looking up.  Even in Spain, which suffered some of the highest infection and fatality rates in the world, people are  eagerly-but-cautiously planning for when the virus is fully contained.  This photo was taken in Madrid during the winter of 2019 — so long before the coronavirus took over — but it’s particularly relevant nearly 18 months later.  There are metaphors to be found in the imagery:  the little girl personifies hope and a new beginning, whereas the water (fountain) symbolizes relief and restoration.  Children will soon return to school, but the streets are completely empty still… both of these are represented in the picture too.

Until we get there, we need to stay strong, smart, and vigilant.  As was written during the past few weeks, this too shall pass.  Let’s hope sooner rather than later!
